Nurses: Through Their Eyes Only

As nurses across the country are working in an environment with withering protective gear, and in other incidents, none at all, the world is plaqued by a novel virus, a pandemic. Nurses are trained on a daily basis to protect themselves from infectious disease and for some this is their specialty. However, the structures in place, whether it be leadership, government or economics, have failed nurses, the most trusted profession in the world.

As a consequence, the world gets to view this failure through their eyes only. The Nurses.

It is a view unfortunately,I am familiar with. As a veteran nurse, I know this fear, the frontline, I served in the United States Navy for 22 years. It is a piercing fear that must hold together the oath one takes as a nurse and the honor of indelible conduct.

The World Health Organization designated 2020 as the Year of the Nurse and Midwife. Absolutely. My work is committed to cementing nursing science around the edges of this globe. I am empowered more than ever.

Nurse Strong!
