On My Desk: The Culture of it All

As a solo entrepreneur I am reminded everyday how important it is to pay attention to details. Sure, you won't to win them all, but it's important to know that you won't and neither should you. In my world, this is one of the first mental acknowledgements in creating a winning culture as a SOLO ENTREPRENEUR.

Nearly every business organization in the country has made a statement in regards to their culture concerning racism, inequalities and diversity. However, for those of us who have been doing the work for decades, we just keep doing what we do, because we know 99% of this rhetoric will be short-lived. Which is unfortunate.

Creating a culture as a solo entrepreneur is probably not something most small business owners discuss or hear about, but as more solo entrepreneurs rise out of the last decade, in particular this pandemic, it's a much needed conversation. The culture of a solo entreprenuer is key to how customers see you and your future ability to scale.

I have been doing this for 10 years, so let's talk about some key things to create a winning SOLO CULTURE.

Advocacy

You have to have a community advocacy as a solo entrepreneur. If you literally don't stand for something, you will not survive in the big waters. Yes, you may be able to reel in your friends, colleagues and maybe a few at the church, but having longterm success will be unlikely.

Master Your Craft

Be so good, they can't ignore you. This is the name of the game as a solo artist. You can't afford to dibble and dabble. People have to know when they see your face or name, they know exactly what you represent.

Know Small Business

I run an online workspace as well as a brick and mortar. Learning the process of this has been one of the most transformational processes of my journey; nothing beats learning the process yourself. It creates a certain pedigree that sets you apart. It is a must to know YOUR business in and out.

Culture is defined my the visionary. What's important is that you create a process that is diverse, inclusive, in-depth and one that you can speak to.

Have a great week. Be sure to sign up for our upcoming For Nurses By Nurses Digital Membership this fall. Great courses coming up.
