Cultural currency is frequently described as the social knowledge and influence gained that enhances the value of an organization's workplace. Whether it pertains to medicine, science, or community, the way your current workplace leadership addresses and reacts to social issues will shape future recruitment and retention. This also impacts the ability to attract top-tier talent.

Workplace culture will get worse before it gets better. The year 2026 has been marked as one of the most challenging in American history, characterized by significant policy changes and pressing issues that have far-reaching implications for civil, reproductive, and economic rights. As we move through this transformative period, we must be intentional about acknowledging the shifts among employees due to social and national policies, which can and will heighten tensions at all levels, including diversity, gender pay disparities, health insurance, and cultural dynamics.
As organizations strive to adapt to new policies and regulations, employees may experience uncertainty and anxiety, which can contribute to a decline in morale. In particular, transformation and purges withing the Department of Education and Veteran Affairs, both which effect millions of employees and their families. By addressing these challenges head-on and committing to meaningful change, we can look forward to a future where all individuals are respected, valued, and empowered within their professional environments.
