Denetra is the founder of For Nurses By Nurses Productions, a media platform encompassing a scientific storytelling initiative, a digital nursing and health science library, and a film production company. Her work aims to address health inequities through scientific storytelling.

She is a 22-year Navy veteran and a former United States Naval Nurse Corps Officer. Her educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master in Health Services Administration.

Denetra has studied public health and diversity abroad, participating in a mission trip to Chile and Argentina where she engaged in think-tanks with diverse nursing, medical, and public health leaders.

She also served as a guest speaker for nursing students at Universidad Finis Terrae and Hospital San Jose in Santiago, Chile.

In 2018, Denetra released her first mini-documentary, The Black Angels: A Nurse's Story, which tells the story of African American nurses whose clinical contributions were critical in finding the cure for tuberculosis patients at Seaview Hospital in 1951.
