Located on Virginia's Eastern Shore, it offers a serene, mystic gateway to history and relaxation. As part of my research as a historian I stumbled across this little town called Chincoteague. I crossed it as I reached my final destination of Wallops, Island, a NASA facility that launches rockets into space.
It was a must visit for two reasons, it carried great stories of wild horses and fresh oysters. Because I don't travel alone, I have to think about my husband driver, these are two of his favorite things. So, off we went.

The Chincoteague pony, also known as the Assateague horse, is the horse of this amazing town. The Chincoteague Pony Swim is an annual tradition that draws thousands of spectators from around the country. And according to research, every registered pony has a name. I was lucky to see a herd grazing and get these amazing shots.
The best time to experience the beauty of the horses is in the summer.

Chincoteague is a town on the island of the same name, in Virginia’s Eastern Shore region. It’s a gateway to Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge, on Assateague Island, which has beaches and wild Chincoteague ponies. (wikepedia)
If you decide to plan a trip to Chincoteague and Assateageue Island, it is a fantastic place for the family.
Introducing The Oldest House On The Island
The Timothy Hill House is the oldest house on Chincoteague Island, built in the 1800's. It was added to the National Registery in 1911.
The legacy of the Timothy Hill House speaks to a journey of great architechtural design. The home is the only home of a particular style from the 1600's; with sailing ships carved into the log planks. This home represents the lone survivor of this design. A true gem.
