Charleston, South Carolina, was a visit to live for. It was the primary reason for my road trip this weekend and there was so much to learn. This trip will be the first episode of the Chasing History: The Underground Road Trip.

The Stay

French Quarter Inn. Upon arrival they offered the bubbly. Although I don't drink, it was still fabulous.

The Food

Hanks Seafood is nestled downtown Charleston in an old warehouse. But do not be fooled. It is the #1 restaurant in the city. A must eat.

The Top Sites

Hampton Plantation is one of the National Historical Sites on my Underground Railroad Journey. A rice plantation with an incredible story. I particularly like that the plantation name was not of the owner but related to the STYLE of home it was inspired from.

The Charleston church shooting (also known as the Charleston church massacre) was a mass shooting on June 17, 2015, in Charleston, South Carolina, in which nine African Americans were killed during a Bible study at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church. It is the oldest African Methodist Episcopal Church in the South.
