A celebration of 50 years of honoring those who have paved the way for women in film was on center stage this past week. I was honored to be in the room.
History has noted well the prejudices faced by women in film. From producers to screen writers, the industry has not been kind. It was an absolute pleasure to be in the company of industry icons such as Jane Fonda, Lilly Tomlin, Eva Langoria, Danai Gurira, and America Ferrera, just to name a few. Although a room filled with character, reflection, gratitude, and influence, it buzzed with determination to continue the fight for equity.
As an independent there was a lot of stillness on my part. I wanted to soak this moment in and connect with my new colleagues. It was a unique experience to be able to take nursing into this room and share the stories of THE BLACK ANGELS, THE DIXIE 3 and THE FIRST FOUR. Nevertheless, I understood this was a new shift in my journey. Onward.
